Getting started in Steelborn
The game explains almost nothing. Here is what we wish we had known on day one, read screen by screen and checked by several players.
1. Save your game before anything else
The game ties your progress to no Google or Apple account. Uninstalling erases everything, and no button restores it. Write your ID down now: it takes two minutes, and it is the only thing on this page you cannot fix later.
2. The factory comes before the rest
Every piece of gear comes out of it, and its level decides what it can make. Three breakpoints matter: at level 7 Junk finally disappears, at level 11 Warbound catches Refined at 40% each, and from level 13 Next-Gen takes off — 1% at 13, 5% at 14, 65% at 18. The full table, level by level.
3. Gems: each tier once, not the big one on repeat
Every gem offer doubles on its first purchase, once only. Buying each tier once therefore pays far better than buying the largest one again and again. If you ever spend, spend in that order. Prices and what they are worth.
4. An arena token is a bet, not a purchase
A win pays 2 Thread and 1,200 Scrap Caps. A loss pays nothing — and spends the token all the same. Do not throw a token at someone out of your reach: Thread comes only from the arena, and Thread is what levels your banners. What the arena pays.
5. Do not hoard duplicate drones
Fusing one copy gives one star, and a star adds 2.5 points of ATK, HP and DEF on top of unlocking skill tiers. Those tiers open at stars 1, 2, 7, 11 and 19, so the last one asks for 19 duplicates of the same drone. A duplicate set aside does nothing. The 21 drones recorded.
6. One banner worn, one shared level
All your banners share the same level, and only one is worn at a time. Switching is free: wear the one whose resistance helps against what you are fighting, not the one you levelled. The seven banners and their tiers.
The four mistakes that cost the most
- Not writing your ID down, and losing everything when you change phone.
- Buying the largest gem pack again instead of doing each tier once.
- Throwing arena tokens at players stronger than you.
- Keeping duplicate drones instead of fusing them.
None of this is official: these are in-game readings that any update can contradict. If you see something else, say so on the Discord and the page will be corrected.
